Does the length of the pipes include the thread?
Yes, the length listed on the website is that of the entire pipe. All pipes have 1cm thread on either side which is included in the listed length.
Are the products rust resistant?
Yes, all of our items are E-coated - black. The coating makes it rust resistant - we live close to the ocean and have pipes installed outside (under cover patio) and after 2 years it looks good as new. That being said it is not recommended to use as plumbing pipes where water continuously moves through - these pipes are meant for decorative purposes only.
What is E-coating?
E-coating, also known as electrodeposition coating, is a method of painting that uses electrical current to deposit paint on a surface. See quick explanation of the E-coating process:
- Pretreatment: We clean the parts to ensure the coating adheres optimally.
- Immersion: We submerge the parts in the E-coat bath.
- Electrophoresis: A charge of electricity is applied to cause paint particles to migrate to the metal surface and adhere to it.
- Post-rinse: We ensure an even coat by washing away the excess paint.
- Curing: The parts are heated and solidified in a curing chamber, resulting in a durable finish.
Why E-coating?
Pros:
- Uniform Coating: Ensures comprehensive protection by achieving uniform coating in complex shapes and difficult-to-reach places.
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Ideal for automotive and industrial parts.
- Environmental Efficiency: Uses water-based products and produces minimal hazardous waste by eco-friendly methods.
- Cost Effective for High Volumes: Highly efficient due to automated processes and minimal waste of material.
Cons:
- Limited Colour Range: Available in fewer colors than powder coating.
- Curing requirements: Parts may not be suitable for all materials.
- Thickness Restrictions: Provides a thin coating compared to powder coatings, which is insufficient for applications requiring thick protective layers.
Can you give a quote and install?
No, we do not do installation. When Pipe Decor was established the vision was to supply a system that is so easy to use that anyone, who can screw components into each other and drill a hole (depending on the project), can use it. You do not need any special skills or experts to install - everything is easy DIY
We refrain from doing quotes on specific projects as there are too many variables eg. were measurements taken correctly, what thickness pipes would be suitable etc. If a pre-packaged set on our website is sold out and you would like to purchase the exact design you are free to contact us and if we have stock of the loose components we can put a set together for you.
What does the sizing eg. 1/2", 3/4" and 1" mean?
These measurements refer to the inner pipe size as indicated below:
